It’s no wonder that 2nd Street Floors is Williamsburg’s premier flooring store, as Mark Ackermann has been working in and contributing to the industry since 1979. Ever since getting his first job at the age of 16 at The Billy James Company in Hampton, Virginia, Mark has been honing his know-how and expertise in all aspects of flooring.
Mark’s four-decades-long experience in flooring spans different cities, specialties and companies, all of which has made him – and his team at 2nd Street Floors - true industry experts who you can trust to listen to and understand your flooring needs.
Shortly after Mark began his professional journey, he relocated to New Jersey, where he worked for Bob Barrett in Upper Montclair, specializing in custom carpet installations, including Karistan, Sisals, and wool carpeting. Soon thereafter, Mark recruited his younger brother, Kurt, to join him in opening his own installation business, Marks Carpet Installation. They did installations for Fairlawn-based HH Nakashian and Sons and served satisfied customers throughout Bergen County and Manhattan.

Besides carpet, they branched out to hardwood and vinyl, installing quality flooring in many stores in the Hampton Roads Area and in homes in Williamsburg, including King's Mill, Fords Colony and Governors Land.
Mark and Kurt later dissolved their company when Kurt moved to El Salvador to volunteer with orphans. Mark continued contributing his flooring installation expertise for various Hampton flooring stores, amassing a large client base. Seeing a need for a quality flooring store in Williamsburg that prioritized customer satisfaction, Mark opened 2nd Street Floors.
